Michael McCarty to Be Honored at 2012 C-CAP Gala
February 16 Fundraiser Benefits Disadvantaged Youth
in Career through Culinary Arts Program
Michael McCarty, founder and proprietor of Michael’s Santa Monica and Michael’s New York, will be honored-for his groundbreaking contributions as “the Godfather of California Cuisine” and his transformative role in New American Cooking-by Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) at its Annual Benefit on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Pier Sixty at New York’s Chelsea Piers. A national not-for-profit, C-CAP dedicates itself to providing education, and career opportunities in the culinary arts for underserved youth, and over the past 20 years has awarded more than $34 million in scholarships.
Honorary Chairs for the event are Bette Midler and Martin Von Haselberg. The Chef Chair is Marcus Samuelsson of Red Rooster. Vice-Chairs are Nina and Tim Zagat and Susan and Richard Grausman, and CBS2 News Co-Anchor Maurice DuBois will be master of ceremonies.
Guests will enjoy an evening of fabulous food presented by more than 30 of the New York City’s long-time favorite and hottest star chefs, including Samuelsson, Waldy Malouf (Beacon), Tom Colicchio (Colicchio & Sons), Daniel Boulud & Sandro Micheli (Daniel), Alfred Portale (Gotham Bar & Grill), Missy Robbins (A Voce Columbus), and Kyung Up Lim (Michael’s New York). Over 60 New York City C-CAP high school culinary students are scheduled to assist. A silent auction will include once-in-a-lifetime culinary and travel packages.
“This year, C-CAP is thrilled to honor restaurateur, art collector, entrepreneur, vintner, and chef Michael McCarty for his remarkable achievements and contributions to the culinary industry and his commitment to nurturing the next generation of chefs,” says C-CAP’s founder and chairman, Richard Grausman. “Having Bette Midler and Martin von Haselberg as honorary chairs of this event is a tribute to Michael’s outstanding career.”
As this year’s honoree, Michael will receive the C-CAP Honors Award. Past recipients include Michael Lomonaco, Marcus Samuelsson, Drew Nieporent, Alfred Portale, Lidia Bastianich, Thomas Keller, Charlie Palmer, Danny Meyer & Michael Romano, Daniel Boulud, Jacques Pepin, Egidiana & Sirio Maccioni, Nina & Tim Zagat, and Saul Zabar & Stanley Zabar.
