Steve
Millington
General Manager
Steve Millington is the General
Manager of Michael’s New York. He has been
running the restaurant for 7 years where he
started as the breakfast manager 10 years ago.
Steve grew up in Bangkok, Thailand,
which lit the fuse for his interest in food. He
was educated as a musician and attended the Berklee
College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. To
help pay his tuition he worked in a restaurant.
Over the next few years he continued alternately
dabbling in the restaurant world and touring with
several bands.
Over the years his position at
a northern Italian restaurant, Bella Luna, became
more of a career. Steve ran Bella Lunas’
lunch for six years creating a destination for
many that wanted the warm, kind, service their
lunch was known for. The owner, Turgut Balicki,
who owned several restaurants, sought Steve out
to open a restaurant/lounge in Greenwich Village,
New York. The place, TJ’s, was a short lived
venture, a year all told. Steve decided to try
a more corporate environment and went to work
for Stephen Hanson’s BR Guest Corporation,
which owns several New York success stories including,
Blue Water Grill, Isabella’s and Ruby Foo’s.
After completing a rigorous training period, Steve
managed their restaurant Park Avalon, but did
not feel he had found the niche for his personality.
An ad in The New York Times for
a breakfast and lunch day manager brought him
to Michael’s. Michael McCarty offered him
the opportunity to learn the inner workings of
a successful, high end, New York restaurant. Steve,
like many other components of Michael’s
Restaurant, is part of a thoughtful and caring
team of people who strive to put the customer
first. Steve would soon learn that there was something
at Michael’s that he hadn’t found
anywhere else; a truly unique connection to the
restaurants’ guests, a closeness that enables
Steve to utilize his love of food, and an appreciation
for the performance that is a properly orchestrated
dining experience.
Robyn
Levy-Wolf
Director of Catering & Special Events
Robyn Levy-Wolf grew up in and
around New York City. After college she delved
into the fast pace work of commercial and music
video production. Although a foodie from early
on, her initial exposure to the restaurant business
was out of pure necessity. While serving tables
at a busy local restaurant, she formed a friendship
with a regular customer who was preparing to start
up a seasonal summer catering company. He saw
potential in Robyn and offered her the opportunity
join him.
They shared the responsibility
of booking the parties as well as actual food
preparation with him as her mentor. It was here
that she discovered her love of fine foods, planning
and coordinating special parties and events. She
especially loved the relations she developed between
her and her clients. At the end of that summer
Robyn heard that Michael’s New York was
looking for a Banquet Director.
Robyn joined Michael’s
in September of 1995 and has never looked back.
Michael’s clients include leaders from the
worlds of publishing, entertainment, government
and art. It is not unusual to find those worlds
colliding on any given day or evening at the restaurant.
Robyn lives with her film editor
husband Miky and dog Jezebel in New York and continues
her love affair with great food, great people
and great parties
